| Ashworth Terrace, Darwen - Wet Room Although the original bathroom was not in too
poor a condition, our client decided that it didn't suit their needs
and as such required some modification to align it more with the way
they lived.
A huge airing cupboard which used to host the hot water cylinder
(removed when the combination boiler was installed) stole much of
the space from this room and the proximity of the WC and basin to
the bath left it feeling altogether claustrophobic.
We were given a degree of free licence with regards to layout and
the brief was a simple as clean lines with a feeling of space, a
walk-in shower and some storage.
After much debate, we designed a wet-room complete with tiled
walk-in shower, a wall hung basin was chosen to give an illusion of
more space, a back to wall WC meant that cleaning behind would be a
thing of the past - the WC was also moved to the opposite side of
the room to give more space. Lastly, a cupboard constructed
around the chimney breast removed an awkward shape from the room
whilst realising the storage required - this will be fronted with a
mirrored door which is currently being produced - once complete and
installed this page will be updated.
Beautiful tiles including coordinating mosaic strips meant this room
looks simply stunning with clean lines throughout.
We and our customer are really pleased with the room.
AWI designed, helped specify, supplied & installed this bathroom.
From start to finish the job included:
- Removal of the existing suite, wall & floor
covering
- Demolition of the airing cupboard
- Lowering of the ceiling (the old ceiling was in a
very poor state and given that the rest of the house had been
lowered this was the simplest approach to tackling that problem)
- Installation of white high-gloss PVC ceiling
cladding
- Installation of 8 * IPX4 SELV down-lighters
- Installation of 6" extractor fan (this room was
in the middle of the house so an in-line fan was chosen to provide
power but without the noise - it is near silent)
- Installation of a switched lit mirror point
(mirror has not been installed at this point)
- Re-plumbing to provide for the new room layout
- Construction of the wet-area including
installation of the Aqaudec and tanking (water-proofing)
- Construction of the cupboard space including
installation of shelving
- Re-hanging of the door the opposite way so as not
to obstruct entry to the room
- Installation of electric under-tile heating
system (Warmup)
- Walls fully tiled (0.6m * 0.3m porcelain tiles)
- Floor fully tiled (porcelain tiles)
- Installation of the new bathroom suite including
walk in shower with thermostatic shower, WC,
wall hung basin, and chrome towel rail
