AWI were contacted to update this downstairs shower room and were
asked for two things - to increase the shower size (incorporating a
power shower) and to build in the existing WC and basin (as the
units were not that old, it was wasteful to throw them away).
As part of the design there was a requirement to reduce the overall
window size in order to allow for a proper shower enclosure which we
coordinated with our uPVC fitter. Decreasing the window size
gave us the necessary space to install a 1000 * 800mm shower
cubicle.
Building the units in proved interesting but we think it has worked
very well, especially with the last minute addition of storage space
beneath the basin - ideal for cleaning products etc.
A vast improvement, this room is now bright (even with the slight
window size reduction) and modern - a great result.
AWI designed, specified, supplied and installed this bathroom.
From start to finish the job included:
- Specification and coordination of the window
replacement
- Removal of the existing bathroom suite, wall and floor
coverings including demolition of the cupboard
- Installation of a new Salamander shower pump
including addition of a thermostatic control to the cylinder
- Preparation of the walls including re-dry-lining
- Installation of PVC white high gloss ceiling
cladding
- Installation of a 4 * IPx4 mains voltage halogen
down-lighters
- Installation of a chrome effect extractor fan, ducted outside
- Re-wiring including installation of a new RCD
protected circuit to provide power
to the new heating circuits (under-floor
heating and a summer element in the towel radiator)
- Construction of the frame around the existing WC
cistern and basin (the WC pan was replaced with a more complete
looking back to wall model)
- Walls fully tiled (ceramic tiles)
- Floor fully tiled (natural stone mosaic tiles) including installation of Warmup under-floor heating system
- Installation of the new bathroom suite including
Merlyn Series 7 chrome 1000 * 800mm quadrant shower enclosure,
Merlyn Sensa Shower system incorporating 4 body jets and riser kit,
basin, WC and heated towel rail complete with programmable electrically
heated summer element (the towel rail is dual powered - water from
the central heating and electrically through an element - this
allows the towel rail to still be heated even when the central
heating is off - ideal for drying towels in the summer months)
