| Rushmere, Ashton Under Lyne - Main Bathroom
Having previously done work for our homeowners' son (see
here) we were asked if we could carry
out this conversion from bathroom to easy access wet-room. The
requirement for this change was brought on by the homeowners'
worsening condition and further lack of mobility.
AWI install a great many wet-rooms and handle conversions for
local borough councils and as such we were well placed to offer
advice, provide a design and then install this wet-room which should
greatly improve the quality of life for the homeowner.
We must point out that pictures are not normally taken of these
conversions hence why there are so few on the website but we believe
this one is a good example of how a wet-room with mobility in mind
does not have to look like something out of a hospital ward.
By misfortune, we were unable to take before photos but the room
layout previously included a bath which if you look from the door
ran lengthways along the window wall with the basin squashed in
between that and the door wall and the WC where the new one is,
under the window.
We suggested removing the bath and sinking a wet-room former (Impey
Level-dec) into the floor to provide a level access shower floor -
this area was divided from the rest of the room by a glass screen
which was chosen to be short enough that a wheelchair or shower
chair could easily be moved into place without hindrance.
The basin was moved to in-between the WC and shower divider and
is wall hung, again to allow chair access and the WC was selected (Rak
Compact Deluxe) due to its clean lines but most importantly extended
height (the pan is 450mm vs. a more normal 400mm high).
The walls were fully tiled to ease cleaning and of course this is
most suitable for a wet-room and lastly the room was floored using
Polysafe Hydro which is a high resistance rated none-slip flooring.
AWI designed, supplied, specified and installed this bathroom.
From start to finish the job included:
- Removal of the existing suite, wall & floor
covering
- Re-plumbing to support the new layout including
cutting into the floor to install the wet-room former
- Ceiling clad with white PVC gloss ceiling panels
- Installation of 6 * IPX4 SELV downlighters
- Walls fully tiled (ceramic tiles)
- Floor covered with poly-vinyl Polysafe Hydro
which is coved up the walls
- Installation of the new bathroom suite including
WC, wall hung basin, electric shower, shower seat, towel rail and
grab handles
