| Valley Mill, Eagley Mills, Bolton - Bathroom
On the third floor of this prestigious development lies our
homeowners apartment. We were invited to provide a design,
specification and formal quote to replace the existing poorly chosen
and designed bathroom after another bathroom installation company
"disappeared".
Our brief was a wet room or similar with clean lines, stylish in
appearance.
We suggested to build the back wall out since we already had to
conceal the soil pipe running in the casing on the right hand side
of the room seen in some of the before pictures. This could
not be moved or sunken as it serves each of the flats on all 3
floors so the only way to make it seem invisible was our suggestion.
For a showering solution, we suggested installing a colossal
Matki Walk In Enclosure which is 1200 * 900mm (4' * 3') with
30cm/12" deluge rain head and separate riser kit with diverter
valve. We suggested constructing a step alongside the low
profile tray to allow water splashed from the tray to run back in.
For the sanitary-ware we suggested a wall hung basin, oval in
shape with no tap holes which was complemented with a wall mounted
mixer tap and a concealed cistern WC with back to wall floor
standing pan helped with the clean lines. Because this shape
of basin was not available with no tap holes we recessed the tap
plinth/mounting section of the basin into the wall, giving the
impression that the oval is hanging from nowhere.
So as not to waste the space of the built out wall, we suggested
for storage that we "build in" a mirrored door cabinet - 1000 *
750mm in size with 3 doors provides plenty of space. Above the
WC we created a lit, tiled recess which can be used for decoration
or shelved if need be.
Lastly, electric under-tile heating was specified to heat the
room.
AWI designed, specified, supplied and installed this bathroom.
From start to finish the job included:
- Removal of the existing suite, wall & floor
coverings
- Demolition of the old shower enclosure
- Construction of the new false stud wall including
framing for the cabinet recess and tiled recess
- Framing out of the angled corner in the room to
allow it to be more usable to back a cabinet onto in the future (the
original corner had a 45degree slope of approximately 4"/100mm - we
increased this to 12"/30cm)
- Installation of the WC frame and basin frame
including concealed WC cistern
- Installation of PVC ceiling cladding
- Re-wiring to split the lighting into two
separately switched banks of 3 spotlights; installation of 6 * IPx4
35W SELV spotlights; installation of 2 * LED lights to the recess;
provision of a supply for the electric under-floor heating
- Re-plumbing as required to support the new layout
- Installation of the shower tray
- Construction of a step with a fall/slope to allow
water to run back into the tray
- Tanking/water-proofing of the whole shower area
- Walls fully tiled (large format ceramic tiles) including
two feature strips of mini-bloc mosaic tiles which were separately
grouted in charcoal
- Floor fully tiled (porcelain tiles) including the
step area
- Installation of the new bathroom suite including
walk-in shower enclosure, thermostatic shower with 12"/30cm deluge
head and separate riser kit,
basin, WC, cabinet and
accessories
